Medication management is a type of outpatient treatment strategy that involves an initial evaluation of the patient’s need for their medication. Prescribed drugs are carefully reviewed to look closely at the possible side effects that each could cause. Some patients may be taking medications that are no longer benefiting them or they may need a prescription for a particular medication that hasn’t been prescribed yet.
Medication management is an important part of the overall treatment plan for elderly individuals who take multiple medications to treat multiple diseases or disorders. The management of meds makes use of the knowledge of nurses, doctors, home care aides, and other caregivers and health professionals to make certain that the patient is reaping the greatest benefit and best possible outcomes from their medications.
Dr. Ashley Johnson has over 15 years of experience in medication management with integrated psychotherapy for psychiatric, addiction and chronic pain conditions. She understands that everyone reacts differently to these medications and what is right for one patient is not necessarily what is best for another. She also understands how frustrating it can be to go through different medication trials and feel like the medication was not successful. It is important to remember that medication is not a cure, but can help to relieve symptoms. For some patients, it can be beneficial to use medication management in conjunction with Deep TMS or Ketamine Therapy.
After an initial evaluation of the patient’s medications, all prescriptions and over-the-counter medications must be monitored in an ongoing, regular way that ensures that two or more medications are not having a negative interaction (polypharmacy) and none of the medications are causing side effects that are negatively affecting the patient’s quality of life. The goal of medication management is always to get the desired outcomes for the patient with the least amount of side effects.
Follow-up session: $195
We also offer Tempus pharmacogenomic testing to help gain better insights into which psychiatric or neurologic medications may be the best fit for any individual. The Tempus saliva sample can be collected in the clinic and mailed to the lab on the same day. Results usually come back within 2 weeks. Most insurances cover this service and Tempus can also offer discounts for the remaining balance if not fully covered by insurance.
$350
*This is the private pay rate for Tempus before company discounts are applied.*
For medication management, we accept the following insurances and also accept private pay.
$375 – Initial session and patient intake (45 – 60 minutes)
$195 – Follow up session (30minutes)
Pricing by insurance co-pay can vary. Ask our staff if you have any questions or concerns.
If your health insurance is not listed, we can request a Single Case Agreement on your behalf from any other insurance that has a TMS benefit.
Do you accept insurance coverage for medication management?
Medication Management is currently private pay only; however, a “superbill” (i.e. a final statement) will be provided for you to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement of some or all of your costs. CareCredit can also be used to cover psychiatric medication management at Colorado Recovery Solutions.
What is the process of obtaining genetic testing for medications?
We currently use Tempus for genetic testing (aka pharmacogenomic testing). This is just a simple swab of the mouth, on site at our clinic. We then express-mail your saliva sample to Tempus for processing. Results typically return within 2 weeks. Most insurances cover some or all of the costs. Our psychiatrist will go over the results with you.

Who is psychiatric medication management intended for at your clinic?
Colorado Recovery is intended to provide advanced neuropsychiatric treatments for emotional disorders or chronic pain. Our medication management services are typically geared towards exhausting medication trials, so that individuals eventually meet “treatment-resistant” criteria for insurance coverage of TMS or Spravato. We recommend if at all possible, antidepressant and augmentor medication trials be completed through your primary care or an outside psychiatric prescriber.
